I participated in my first PurpleStride - Cleveland last year on June 21st. I went straight to my mom’s house afterwards and was able to tell her all about it! She passed away on June 23rd...6 months to the day of diagnosis. I walked this year with my sister and our kids and plan to continue to grow our team. It is comforting to know we are not alone and many people are working very hard to make a difference and every little bit counts.

Last year in August I was returning to college when I found out that there was a walk not too far from my school. I created a fund-raising webpage and got some donations, but when the day of the event came I was really nervous because I was going to be walking by myself. I felt so alone, until I saw just how many people were there wearing the purple shirts. It was comforting to know that I would never really be alone in this. When the walk started I was still alone, but we were a huge collective of people with very similar stories. It felt amazing to be surrounded by all of that purple. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
So many wonderful memories... the first and original walk with my Mom crossing the finish line. The second walk without my Mom, but with such loving support from friends and supporters. I could go on and on but the best part about events has been the love and support of those I volunteered with and those in the crowd. Love to you all!
